ラムザイヤー論文批判への全面的な反論文

 

　ハーバード大学の法経済学者マーク・ラムザイヤー教授の「太平洋戦争における性サービス」という論文が、ジャパン・フォーワードに取り上げられたのをきっかけに、大バッシングが韓国、アメリカなど世界的な規模で起こったのは、昨年の１月でした。何と世界の学者３０００人以上が撤回要求書に署名するという異常な事態が起こったのでした。

　これに反撃するために、われわれは４月２４日にはシンポジウムを開催し、またわれわれのニュースレターでも反論を掲載してきました。目下、有馬哲夫先生著『「慰安婦」はみな合意契約をしていた』（ワック）の英訳を連載中です。

　さて、ラムザイヤー教授が批判に対する全面的な反論をまとめられましたので、教授のご許可をいただきまして皆様にご案内する次第です。発信する会では、日本語訳を行いましたので、これもご案内する次第です。

　この反論文をお読みいただければお分かりのように、３０００人の署名者が前提としている、日本軍による２０万人の慰安婦強制連行なるものは、それを証明する証拠となる文献、目撃証言はただの一つもありません。慰安婦が契約書を交わしていたはずがない、その証拠には、そんな契約書は１点も残っていないではないか、と学者たちはいいます。しかし、そんな済んでしまった私文書を残している人がいるはずがありません。しかし、ラムザイヤー教授は当時の様々な公文書に、契約書の様式、その扱いなどが書かれていることを示しています。その資料は膨大にあります。本論文集には６ページにわたって掲載されています。

　いずれにしましてもこの論争、ラムザイヤー教授の「完勝」であることは、まともな知性を持つ者には明白となったと言えるでしょう。

CONTRACTING FOR SEX IN THE PACIFIC WAR

A RESPONSE TO MY CRITICS

   January last year, a storm of protests against Harvard Professor Ramseyer’s academic paper “Contracting for Sex in the Pacific War” occurred not only in Korea but also in America and Europe. It was really an extraordinary event, because the protesters (more than 3000 scholars joined) demanded that an academic paper be withdrawn without academic discussion process.

   We refuted such unfair attack at Ramseyer. On April 24, 2021, we held a seminar to counter argue their non-theoretical critics. We have been publishing translation of a book “Comfort Women All Signed a Contract of Agreement” written by Arima Tetsuo, Professor at Waseda University in this Newsletter.

    Now Professor Ramseyer compiled his responses to his critics as follows:

   In his response articles, he perfectly demonstrates that Japanese military’s 200,000 forced conscription has not a single evidence material and third party person testimony. Most critics argue that there were never contract between the comfort women and the brothels. For example Suk Gersen, Harvard says in newspaper Joong Ang Ilbo;

 “I examined the references of Professor Ramseyer’s article and found out that there were no contracts related to South Korean women at the wartime comfort stations nor secondary sources indicating the presence of contracts in question.”

But this is a sheer lie. Ramseyer cited in his paper “U.S. Office of War” information, in which the contract the comfort women signed is clearly mentioned.

   In this response paper, the source of contract information is listed using as many as 6 pages.

   Every one with academic thinking and human conscience will conclude that Ramseyer made a complete victory in this controversy.
