　なぜラムザイヤーは孤立するのかと言えば、その理由は学問の世界の構造的な歪みにある、と著者は言います。

　歴史的事実の見方、そしてアジェンダ・セッティングによって事柄の評価が変わってきます。

　慰安婦問題についていえば、これを客観的に明らかにしようという客観史観がある一方、慰安婦制度を悪とし、道徳的にはもちろん国内法的にも国際法的にも抵触するトピう言うことを明らかにしようとアジェンダ・セッテイング人たちがいます。本来学問的には、客観史観を取るべきなのですが、東京裁判史観に立つ人々は、後者のようなアジェンダ・セッテイングを当然の前提とするわけです。そしてこれが、世界の学問の世界を支配しているわけです。

　こうして初めから、日本・日本軍＝悪、その慰安婦制度＝悪という前提から出発している慰安婦論が今なお横行しているわけです。

　著者は公文書中心史観なので、一次資料から歴史的事実を明らかにしていこうとしているので、一定の見方というものはないと言います。

　しかし、当時国内法的にも国際法的にも合法であった、慰安婦制度を、最初から「悪」と決めつける慰安婦論は、どう考えても「学問」とは言えないでしょう。正義感に基づいていようとどうしようと、事実を歪曲した慰安婦論は、反学問的であり、むしろこれは道徳的に言えば悪にほかなりません。

“Comfort Women” All Signed a Contract of Agreement

—Impact of the Ramseyer Article

   Why is Ramseyer alone? Author Arima says “In the structurally skewed academic world, wherein truth is primary, one has no choice but to become a “prophet in the wilderness.”

   There are many perspectives surrounding a historical fact because these perspectives are motivated by different agenda.

   As to the “comfort women problem”, there is an “objective view of history”, which presents the facts and clarifies events as objectivity as possible. On the other hand, there is the view that the comfort women system was not only immoral but also infringed on international as well as domestic laws. One with this view, agenda and goal aims to make clear that the comfort women system was both legally and morally unacceptable.

This view can be called the “Tokyo Trial view of history”. In the Tokyo Trial, the Allies’ agenda was to show that Japan waged an evil war and passed judgement based on this agenda. From this view, the comfort women system was part of an evil war conducted by a criminal Japanese army. This view still prevails throughout the  academic world.

   The author is originally an official documents specialist rather than a historian. So, his only goal is to make historical facts clear based on primary sources and not to make definite judgments.

   To assume that the comfort women system was evil, based on the Tokyo Trial view, is not the view of an unbiased academic. The comfort women system in fact had international and domestic legal standing at that time, from its inception. If one neglects or distorts the facts, then trying to understand history ends as an academic exercise and becomes something very immoral.
